Marie (Degele) Lampl , 97, formerly from Hettinger, ND, died January 7, 2019, at Villa Maria Nursing Home in Fargo, ND.
Marie was born December 19, 1921, in Dickinson, ND the only daughter of Anton and Elizabeth Degele. She grew up on a farm near Emerson in Dunn County. In addition to helping her parents on the farm she worked for their neighbors doing housework and babysitting.
Marie later moved to Dickinson and worked at the bakery. She lived in an apartment where her neighbor Mike Lampl introduced her to his son Joe Lampl.
Marie married Joseph Lampl October 14, 1947. They lived on the farm north of Hettinger raising grain, cattle and hogs. In 1949, they became the proud parents of a son, Lawrence. Marie was active in the Chantapeta craft club and the St. Theresa’s Altar Society. She enjoyed visiting neighbors, gardening and her many flower plantings. Marie and Joe also enjoyed many winter card parties with their neighbors.
Joe retired from farming in 1977 and they moved to Hettinger into the Marion Apartments. Marie continued to grow various flowers in front of the apartment building. She enjoyed making crafts and spending time with her friends and grandchildren. Marie and Joe were also members of the Senior Citizens 2nd Forty Club.
In 2011, Marie moved to Fargo to be closer to her son and family. She lived in an assisted living apartment until suffering a stroke in October, 2014. She then moved into the Villa Maria nursing facility where she lived until her death. Marie maintained a positive attitude even as she struggled with dementia in her later years.
Marie is survived by son Larry, (Connie), grandson Damian Lampl, West Fargo, granddaughter Shila Lampl (Brad Hagen) and great grandson Joseph Lampl Hagen, Wahpeton, several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jacob, Gregory and Joseph Degele, husband Joe, and one grandson.
The family would like to thank the Villa Maria staff for the loving and compassionate care they gave Marie during the time she lived in their home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hettinger, ND. A Rosary and Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Fr. Charles Zins will officiate with burial to be in the Hettinger Cemetery.
