Bertha (Friesz) Hirning, 78, Mott, ND passed away on Thursday afternoon, September 12, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Mott, ND. She passed peacefully after a five plus year fight with dementia.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 10:00am at the Assembly of God Church, in Mott, ND with Pastor Tera Kossow officiating. Burial will be at the Neuburg Congregational Church Cemetery north of Burt, ND.
Bertha (Friesz) Hirning was born in Elgin, North Dakota, to August and Alvina Friesz on November 18, 1940. She was raised on a farm northwest of Elgin, and attended country school through the first three grades before having to quit school to help on the family farm. She married Harold Hirning from Mott, on October 26, 1958. They had three children.
Harold and Bertha raised their three children, Morell, Bernell, and Scotty, on an 800-acre grain and cattle farm north of Burt; the same farm that was homesteaded by Harold’s grandfather in the early 1900’s. Oldest son Morell handled the cattle side of the operation and son Bernell handled the grain side.
Bertha was a member of the Neuberg Congregational Church north of Burt until it closed, and then became a member of the Zoar Congregational Church in Mott until the time of her death.
Her hobbies and interests included gardening, raising poultry, cooking, baking, and tending to the family farm. She enjoyed her friends and family, treating everyone with the utmost kindness and respect. Her friends, her family, and her farm were truly her life.
Bertha was preceded in death by her husband Harold, her parents, August and Alvina Friesz; two sisters, Ella Friesz and Martha (Friesz) Fischer; one brother, Rudy Friesz, and one son, Scotty Hirning.
Bertha is survived by two sons; Morell Hirning (and Tiss Johnson) of Mott, and Dr. Bernell Hirning of Fresno, CA; two brothers, Emanual Friesz of Thompson Falls, MT, and Richard Friesz of New Leipzig; three sisters, Ida (Friesz) Kufeldt of Mott, Pauline (Friesz) LaPointe of Plains, MT, and Violet Dahle of Hillsboro; and two Granddaughters with six Great-Grandsons, Kristi Hayhurst (sons Thomus and Evan), and Brittnee (and Ryan) Lasaitis (sons Jonathen, Jackzen, twins Alexander and Bradly), all of Omha, NE.
